Obituary for Robert Warren Boyd

New Bern - Robert Warren Boyd died on January 4, 2018 at New Bern, North Carolina. He was born on August 15, 1926 at Cleveland Heights, Ohio, the son of Chester and Neva (Shannon) Boyd. He was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II in the Philippines. After the war, he attended Ohio University.

He worked for the Lincoln-Mercury Sales Division of Ford Motor Company in Cleveland until resigning to become the Lincoln-Mercury dealer in Oil City, Pennsylvania in 1958. In 1960 he became employed with Chrysler Corporation in Detroit and retired in 1989 to New Bern. He continued part time employment with Chrysler's Fleet Division through 2005. During his Chrysler career, he was employed at offices in Lima, OH; Detroit, MI; St. Louis, MO; New York, NY; Chicago, IL; Pittsburgh, PA; and Greensboro, NC.

He married Patricia Jane Deahl of East Cleveland, OH on November 22, 1950, who predeceased him in March 2011. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Boyd of New York City, and Patricia Ann Melone and her husband Michael, of Oveido, FL; two sons, Robert M. Boyd and his wife Amy of Virginia Beach, VA, and Steven D. Boyd and his wife Wendy of Lakewood, CA; plus seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Bern, and the Emerald Golf Club. He was a past member of the Tidewater Seniors Golf Association, The Scottish Heritage Society of Eastern North Carolina; Elks Lodge #964, and the Craven County Genealogy Society. He was a descendant of John T. Skillman of New Jersey who served in the Revolutionary War.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday January 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, New Bern. The family will receive friends in the Session House following the service.
