Obituary for Marion Irene Eastwood (Van Oosterhout) Taylor

Marion Irene Eastwood (Van Oosterhout) Taylor 92 of New Bern, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston.

Marion served her country in WWII in the Army, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Taylor, at Lawton General Hospital, Atlanta GA. She was a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she served as the librarian and sang in the Senior Joy Choir. She was also one of the “Just Us’ns.”

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Gaston Taylor Sr, her daughter Virginia Irene Taylor, and her parents, Neal and Irene Van Oosterhout.

Marion is survived by her four sons; Joseph Gaston Taylor Jr. (Sue-Carol French Taylor) of Beaufort, NC, James Robert Taylor (Jan Wiygul Taylor) of Raleigh, NC, Richard Neal Taylor Sr. ( Paula Gibson Taylor) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, David Keith Taylor (Beth Shelton Taylor) of Germanton, NC, one sister, Sharon Jean Eastwood Mink (Alan Mink) of Gainesville, FL.

She grew up as an only child and always wanted a large family. God blessed her with twenty grandchildren: Melissa Taylor-Sivulka, Joseph Taylor III, Amy Taylor-Minshew, James R. Taylor Jr., Candace Bloemendaal, Jamie Berry, Richard Berry, Jennifer Berry Leigh, Jinger Berry Thomas, Jaime Casper Dalton, Taylor Casper, Charles Smith, Catherine Smith Anastasio, Richard Neal Taylor Jr., Sara Lynn Taylor Batten, Abby Taylor Hendricks, Robert Kesler, Zachary Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Andrew Taylor, and thirty five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11:00 am, at Pollock-Best Funerals and Cremations. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 am. Burial will follow the service, at New Bern National Cemetery.
