Karl Barry Kromer, beloved husband to Annette, was born in Detroit, MI, in 1943 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Karl W. Kromer (Betty Moore).
A graduate of Dondero High School and Wayne State University in MI, Karl served in the Air Force, intercepting N. Vietnamese radio messages in the Philippines.
Karl joined the Postal Inspection Service in 1971 working general crimes in Tennessee; internal crimes in South Carolina and Detroit, Michigan; Program manager, internal crimes and administration in Bala Cynwyd, PA; and was Team Leader in Norfolk, VA, covering pornography, fraud, drugs and both internal and external crimes.
The position of Assistant Inspector in charge of the Northeast Division (all of New England and New York State) was offered to Inspector Kromer in 1998. His teams covered internal and external crimes, audits, and security.
Inspector Kromer retired while in Massachusetts in April of 2000. One highlight for which he was recognized was having the most arrests and convictions for the Inspection Service in South Carolina.
Karl’s most proud accomplishments are his sons, Karl and Ken. Karl W. and wife Catherine (Wilcox) and daughters, Jillian and Jacqueline of Macomb TWP, Michigan; Kenneth R. and wife Mellissa (Carroll) and daughter, Reece of Acworth, Georgia; stepson Nicholas Blair and wife Jennifer (Routenberg) and sons, Gavin and Conner of Riverview, Florida, were well loved and adored him in turn.
This well loved big brother to Karen Rae Lett of Shelby TWP, Michigan and Janice married to Matt Werner of Rochester Hills, Michigan, leaves behind many nephews and nieces; many in-laws; an ex-wife, Leticia Kromer of the Philippines and mother to his sons; many close “Champion” cousins and many friends, near and far.
Karl and Annette, who met, fell in love and married in Massachusetts, moved to New Bern, North Carolina, in 2000 and made it their home sweet home.
Karl, you were truly loved and will be forever missed. Sweet dreams my love.
