Mrs. Doris Gilbert Hill, 84, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017. A native of Philadelphia, MS, Doris was the eldest child of Vercia and Arden Gilbert. Doris was a registered nurse, working many years in health care in Dallas, TX and Jackson, MS, completing her career as Director of Nursing in a nursing home. She and her late husband, Kemp Carter Hill, retired to New Bern in 2001 to be close to family.

She is survived by her sister Dorothy (Dot) Gilmer and husband Charles of Forest, MS; her daughter, Donda Rhodes, and husband Len, of Winterville; her son, Darwin Hill, of Durham; her granddaughter, Anne Rhodes of Greenville; several nieces and nephews; and her special four-legged friend Roxy (aka Rocky).
