Obituary for Cherry D. Harris (Huff)

On Tuesday, January 17, 2017, Cherry D. Harris of The Vintage Inn in Williamston, formerly of New Bern, entered heaven after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Doris and Dennis Gaskins.

She was preceded in death by Clifford, her loving husband of fifty years, her brother, Jack McManus, and her faithful companion, Summer.

She is survived by her daughters Kim Harris of Winterville and Cheryl Harris of Winterville. She has three sisters, Sandra Connors of New Bern, Margaret Jones (David) of New Bern and Doris DeMunck (Glenn) of New Bern. She has two granddaughters, Maria Nagle (Chris) of North Chesterfield, VA and Gina Arket (Paola) of Schenedctady, NY. She has one great-grandson, Frederic Nagle. She also has several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cherry attended Craven Community College for Cosmetology and worked as a hairstylist for many years at Zelma’s House of Beauty. She was also a loving wife, mother and homemaker. Later, she took a job managing Kid’s Korner, a daycare center, until her retirement. She was a member of Croatan Presbyterian Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Cherry was a very strong and kind woman. She loved animals and would care for any stray that would wander into her yard. She had a gift for decorating and loved to shop.

Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28 at Pollock-Best Funeral Home with committal service at The Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina or the Alzheimer's Association.
