New Bern – Rev. Horace Lee McLaurin, 83, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017.
Rev. McLaurin attended Campbell College, Wake Forest College and New Orleans Baptist Seminary. He served as a Methodist minister for 36 years at Kitty Hawk, Colington, Duck, Moyock, Fletcher’s Chapel, Mt. Herman, St. James, Calvary, Murfreesboro, Smyrna, and Trinity United Methodist Churches.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lucille and U. P. McLaurin, and a sister-in-law, Gwen McLaurin.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wanda Henry McLaurin; two sons, Tim McLaurin and wife, Emily of Newport and Thad McLaurin and wife Mitzi of Greensboro; one brother, Stewart McLaurin of Foley, AL; and six grandchildren, Brianna (Kevin) Swann, April McLaurin, Logan McLaurin, Duncan (Sarah) McLaurin, Rayna McLaurin, and Ellery McLaurin.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Charlene Pierce-Guider and Rev. Walter Gaskins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
He loved his Lord, his family and bird watching.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be designated for the Trinity Endowment Fund or the Mortgage Debt Fund.
