NEWPORT, NC

David Garfield Smith, 75, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at his home. A native of Guilford County, Dave was a US Marine Corps veteran, and the owner of Smith Paper Company. He was a longtime resident of Newport, and was known as a great salesman. His favorite pastime was fishing.

Dave is survived by his wife, Bonnie Horsman Smith, of Newport; his son, David Michael Smith, of Beaufort, SC; his granddaughters, Michelle Smith, of Beaufort, SC; and Melody Smith, of NJ; and his stepson, Thomas Drake Kroll, of Newport. He also leaves behind his sister Dee Smith Battisti, and husband James, of Swarthmore, PA, and his brother, Kenneth Barry Smith, of Morehead City, NC.

Graveside services, with USMC Honors, will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Gethsemane Memorial Park. Those wishing to offer condolences may visit www.pollockbest.com.
